Graduates

 Pinkie, Violet & Baby Blu

Our first official rescues came from Pella in Spring of 2025.  Baby Blu was the runt of the litter and nursed a week longer than her siblings.  A couple was doing yard work and one by one they climbed the pant leg of their rescuer until he called with the 3 siblings.  They were released in Boone on our Aunt and Uncle's property. It backs up into the woods with lots of walnuts and acorns and a creek for fresh water. They were released Summer of 2025 and are still going strong!

Reina

September 2025 Reina came to us with some head and neck trauma from a fall from a tree.  We assessed and started treatment with NSAIDS and physical therapy.  We developed a treatment plan that included keeping her safe from herself and contained until she had time to heal.  Within 24 hours she was able to move her neck, but there were some neurological processes that took a little longer to heal.  Reina spent the winter with us and was released Spring of 2026.

Finn

Finn was an adult female who came to us with a broken foot at the beginning of October 2025.  She wasn't able to use it at all, there were two broken bones up by the ankle and the foot was turned inward.  The vet gave me specifications and I came home and designed her a 3d print I dubbed the "Finnsplint" to help straighten it out.  The vet wasn't sure she was going to be able to use the foot at all.  As an adult she didn't need me as much as she just needed a safe place to rest and heal. The Finnsplint didn't stay on longer than a couple of days but we kept her restricted so she didn't move around too much.  A week later Finn was moving around, eventually able to maneuver every kind of branch.  She also spent the winter with us and in the Spring of 2026 she was released in the most amazing lakeside property in Nevada where she came from.  We put her box in an oak tree right next to a Walnut.  It was such a beautiful place even I was jealous! I'd love to have a treehouse right next to hers.

Bubba & Sissy

These siblings were found in the engine of a tractor Spring of 2026. They were malnourished, dehydrated and their eyes and ears weren't yet open.  In the rehab they thrived! They were released in the summer of 2026 at a place they call Deertopia. It is a beautiful property with lots of trees and natural food sources as well as a creek for water.  The owner of the property sent us a picture of them out living their best life!

Mia & Ashira

Mia was rescued by a dog in the Spring of 2026. He was so gentle when he brought her home in Roland. She was pretty traumatized both from being orphaned on the ground and then inside a dog's mouth, but in the rehab she thrived. She was paired with Ashira and they weren't siblings by litter, but they were definitely siblings! They squabbled over food, but also were the best of friends.

Ashira was found at the base of a tree in Des Moines on a busy street while her rescuer was walking home from school.  They brought her home and called me right away.  Mia and Ashira were released on an acreage in Perry in the Summer of 2026.

Jumpy

Jumpy was found crying loudly trying to jump up to the bottom of a fence. There were no trees close by so they had no idea where he came from. He was so happy and fun to watch grow. I was hoping to be able to match him up with some of the other squirrels I had, but none of them accepted him. He stayed a single and was released here.  He is now the welcoming committee to everyone as they begin their pre-release journey in the cage out back.

Chip

Chip and his mom Cookie came in when his mom had broken her back.  She didn't make it and Chip was released back in Ankeny with his sibling who had already weaned and left the nest in the Spring of 2025.

Ruthie

Ruthie fell from her tree and though mom and siblings saw it happen, they moved and left her behind. She just needed a safe space to grow and when the time came, she decided she wasn't going anywhere. She released herself and though she and jumpy couldn't be paired in the rehab, they paired themselves outside. She is the other half of the welcoming committee, checking everyone out as they move into the pre-release cage.
